Scenic (Lord of the Rings) drive south

The drive to Levin (part of our journey to Wellington to catch a ferry to the south island on Saturday) was most scenic with some lovely stops.
This included parking up and having breakfast by Lake Taupo, and then lunch looking at the volcanic cone that is Mount Ngauruhoe (recognisable as Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings):
Mount Ngauruhoe was New Zealand's most active volcano during the 20th century, with 45 eruptions. Thankfully, the most recent was in 1977.
Our campsite in Levin is set against some lovely hills:
